Precocious Dutch Marquee resident Hardwell tops impressive lineup of festival DJs

Rising EDM star Hardwell didn’t just magically appear in a Vegas DJ booth. The 24-year-old Dutch DJ/producer, born Robbert van de Corput, has technically been in the game since age 13 and played the three biggest clubs in Holland by 15.

And he actually discovered electronic dance music long before that, at the age of 10. “It started with a documentary on the Dutch NBC about Tiësto,” Hardwell says. “I just fell in love with the way they played on the turntables. Electronic music was something new and refreshing to me. I was like, ‘Mom and Dad, I want to become a DJ, too!’”

Fast-forward to 2012. His track “Spaceman” is blowing up, and he’s collaborating with Tiësto. He’s No. 24 on the DJ Mag Top 100 (among other accolades), has his own label (Revealed Recordings) and his “Hardwell on Air” podcast. Now a resident at Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub (with a guest appearance at Lavo on June 7), Hardwell plays the main stage at the Electric Daisy Carnival for the first time on June 8, when he’ll debut a few new tunes.

Even with the success, he remains focused on the thing that got him into the biz in the first place. “I think as an artist that everything I do comes from the heart,” Hardwell says. “I would like to say to guys in the whole business for making money or getting fame or whatever, it all starts with the love of music. And still, every production that I do and everything I play comes from the heart.”
